The goal of the training is to build a shared understanding of dyslexia and help educators recognize that dyslexia is not simply a problem with reversing letters, seeing words incorrectly, or lacking effort. Dyslexia is a language-based learning disability that primarily affects the development of accurate and fluent word recognition, spelling, and decoding. It can occur across all levels of intelligence, and students with dyslexia may demonstrate strong reasoning, creativity, vocabulary, and problem-solving skills while continuing to experience significant difficulty with reading and written language. By the end of the session, participants should be better prepared to recognize possible signs of dyslexia, participate meaningfully in problem-solving and evaluation discussions, select appropriate instructional supports and accommodations, monitor whether interventions are working, and advocate for students’ academic access, confidence, and long-term success.
