In this session, educators will explore the importance of deliberate interactions with children around writing. Participants will learn evidence-based approaches—such as interactive and scaffolded writing techniques—that support children’s understanding of and attempts at writing across any developmental phase. Strategies for encouraging foundational skills in multiple developmental domains and extending writing opportunities into the home will also be shared. Educators will connect the Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy (PreK) with their curriculum materials and authentic child assessment data to strengthen opportunities for children to communicate messages through writing. Time will be provided for intentional planning to support implementation, so participants are encouraged to bring current curriculum units. Note: Kindergarten educators are welcome to register, as PreK practices remain both relevant and beneficial during the transition to kindergarten. Time will be provided for intentional planning to support implementation, so participants are encouraged to bring current curriculum units. In addition, bringing TSG progressions and a laptop will be beneficial.
