Emergency Physical Restraint is for “key personnel” (not all staff) that need to be certified in how to properly perform an emergency physical restraint for a child ages 3-7. Each classroom needs to have at least one key personnel they can access within the building in case of an emergency. Staff must attend verbal de-escalation prior to attending emergency physical restraint training. Verbal De-escalation Training is intended for all staff interacting with children. Along with Handle w/Care techniques, the training includes the seclusion/restraint awareness training mandated by the state, required for all staff . Your school or district may already provide awareness training to new staff, but if not, this training will cover the mandate for staff.
